LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Twenty six student-athletes were recognized as the NFCA announced its 2022 Cal JC All-America teams on Monday afternoon. 

Headlining the North Region with four honorees is College of San Mateo, followed by San Jose City College with three, while Bakersfield College and Mt. San Antonio College paced the South Region with three recipients apiece.

Representing College of San Mateo are pitcher Kealani Cardona (18-2, 0.53 ERA, 57 K, 25 BB, 106 IP), first baseman Sarah Giles (. 504 AVG, .544 OBP, 17 2B, 46 RBI, 42 R), outfielder Lafu Malepeai (.515 AVG, 1.109 SLG, 14 HR, 43 RBI, 49 R) and Bubbah Fa’aita (.473 AVG, .490 OBP, 10 2B, 29 RBI) in the DP or Utility/Non-Pitcher category. This quartet has keyed the Bulldogs to a 36-2 record, No. 3 state ranking and the No. 1 seed heading into the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) North Regional.

San Jose’s trio of pitcher Jessell Lewis (22-4, 1.05 ERA, SV, 106 K, 159.1 IP), catcher Ariana Martinez (.371, 8 2B, 6 HR, 46 RBI) and third baseman Kyana Elder (.514 AVG, .620 OBP, .823 SLG, 17 2B, 34 RBI, 46 R) led the Jaguars (32-5) to a No. 4 seed in the CCCAA Northern Regional and No. 5 overall in the state rankings. 

Mt. San Antonio is the No. 1 overall team in the state rankings and the South Region. Representing Mt. SAC (37-3) are pitcher Grace Pieson (22-3, 1.09 ERA, 3 SV, 178 K, 141.2 IP), first baseman Brianna Goris (.579 AVG, 1.215 SLG, .657 OBP, 22 2B, 14 HR, 46 RBI, 24 BB)  and shortstop Ariana Coronado (.328 AVG, 7 2B, 4 HR, 37 R, .951 FLD).

Pitcher Talia Nielsen (25-3, 1.29 ERA, 276 K, 14 BB, 201 IP), second baseman Rylee Price (.444 AVG, .795 SLG, 14 2B, 9 HR, 33 RBI, 32 R) and Kady Smith (.422 AVG, .807 SLG, 10 2B, 10 HR, 47 RBI, 36 R) in the DP or Utility/Non-Pitcher category pace Bakersfield. The Renegades (34-6) are tied for 12th in the state poll and the eighth seed in the South Regional.

Butte College (39-1), No. 2 overall and in the region, was the other North program with multiple honorees with pitcher Savannah Wahl (20-1, 0.61 ERA, 146 K, 27 BB, 137 IP) and outfielder Alexis Detwiler (.493 AVG, .510 OBP, 13 2B, 9 HR, 61 RBI, 13 SB). 

Completing the North Region’s All-America infield is Hannah Clavelle (.406 AVG, .875 SLG ,13 2B, 4 3B, 13 HR, 47 RBI) of Sacramento City College and Mikaela Ferreira (.550 AVG, .593 OBP, .884 SLG, 25 2B, 34 RBI, 50 R) of San Joaquin Delta College. Outfielder Meadow Topete (.367  AVG, 10 2B, 39 RBI, 30R) of Sierra College and utility/pitcher Danielle Pfenning (.379 AVG, 11 2B, 24 RBI) of Cosumnes River College round the out the North’s All-America squad.

College of the Canyons and Palomar College each earned two nods in the South Region. Outfielder Ashlynn Heck (.434 AVG, .727 SLG, 13 2B, 10 3B, 39 RBI, 45 R) and utility/pitcher Allyson Melgar (13-5, 2.85 ERA, SV, 87 K / .426 AVG, 15 2B, 5 HR, 35 RBI) earned recognition for the Cougars (24-15-1), while Allyson Amato (.492 AVG, 12 2B, 37 RBI, 14 SB, 44 R) at third base and Alexia Terrazas (.365 AVG, 8 2B, 24 RBI, 34 R, 1.000 FLD) in the outfield were the Comets’ (31-7) representatives.

Santa Ana College’s Emily Rosas (35-6, 0.99 ERA, 279 K, 47 BB, 14 SHO) and Long Beach City College’s Jaylene Ross (.461 AVG, 17 2B, 4 3B, 29 RBI, 36 R) took home plaudits at pitcher and catcher, respectively, while Alyssa Lujan (.432 AVG, 10 2B, 11 3B, 31 R, 14 SB) of El Camino College was the final All-America outfielder in the South Region.

NFCA Cal JC All-America athletes must be nominated by their NFCA-member head coaches and are voted for by the coaches in their region to receive this prestigious accolade.
