To be eligible for selection to the MWC academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.

Forty-three student-athletes earned MWC academic honors in 2001, including 16 repeat selections from the 2000 squad. Utah and UNLV each had a league-high 10 members on this year's MWC All-Academic team, followed by Brigham Young with seven, Colorado State and New Mexico with six each and San Diego State with four.
