SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The 2010 NFCA National Convention got off to a great beginning on Wednesday with two dynamic speakers, committee meetings, awards, and it was all capped off with a Mexican fiesta sponsored by Louisville Slugger.

The day began with an annual pre-convention seminar that featured Peak Performance coach Brian Cain. Cain wowed audiences with fire-eating and board-breaking demonstrations that tied into the philosophy of mental toughness.

The afternoon saw several committees convene for their annual in-person meeting, including the new Recruiting and Recruiting Camp & Tournaments committees. Committee meetings at the convention give members not only a chance to set their agenda for the year, but also the opportunity to meet people they served with, often for the first time.

After committee meetings, the membership gathered in the ballroom for the opening session. After presentations from ASA Executive Director Ron Radigonda, ISF President Don Porter, and National Pro Fastpitch Vice President of Development Gaye Lynn Wilson, NFCA Executive Director Lacy Lee Baker gave members an update on the state and growth of the Association.

Following Baker’s presentation, best-selling author of The Energy Bus Jon Gordon gave the keynote address on the power of positive thinking and having high energy.

After the general session, the evening ended with a time of networking and socializing at the Louisville Slugger Opening Reception. Along with Mexican food, the reception also featured a live mariachi band that delighted the crowd with traditional Mexican music. The evening ended with a raffle drawing by Olympian Jessica Mendoza.

On Thursday, each membership division will conduct business meetings, presentations will be given by Frozen Ropes founder Tony Abbatine and UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez, and the annual Softball Summit will be held.
