University of Alabama pitcher Stephanie VanBrakle has been named the Louisivlle Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 6-12, the association announced Wednesday.
VanBrakle helped the sixth-ranked Crimson Tide to a perfect 6-0 start to SEC play and 21-3 overall mark with two wins each in sweeps of Florida and South Carolina.
The senior from Chambersburg, Pa., allowed just four hits in 25 innings of work. She limited the Gators and Gamecocks to a .049 average, and she struck out 39 over the six-game stretch.
In an 8-0 win over South Carolina, VanBrakle tossed her second no-hitter of the season. Two days after striking out 15 Florida hitters, a career high in SEC play, VanBrakle tallied her 900th career K in a 6-1 win over the Gamecocks.
VanBrakle also had a solid two-game set at the plate, hitting .412 (7-for-17) with a home run and four RBIs to extend her hitting streak to five games.
On the season, VanBrakle has put together a 12-1 mark in which she has allowed eight runs, four earned, on 23 hits with 144 strikeouts and 11 walks over 83 and a third innings. She has hit at a .286 clip thus far in the campaign with two home runs and eight RBIs.
