OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Arizona Wildcats turned back a late rally from Washington on Saturday to eliminate the defending National Champions, 4-3, at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

Arizona scored first in the ball game in the third inning when outfielder Brittany Lastrapes singled to right field, driving in sophomore Karissa Buchanan.

The Wildcats (49-12) added another run later in the inning on an error by Washington second baseman Amanda Fleischman that allowed Lastrapes to score and extend Arizona's lead to 2-0.

Washington (50-9) got on the board in the fourth inning on a single to left field from sophomore Niki Williams that scored pinch runner freshman Maggie Wagner to close the gap at 2-1.

In the fifth, the Wildcats extended their lead to 3-1 when senior K'Lee Arredondo sent a ball out to center field, allowing Buchanan to cross the plate.

The Huskies pulled within one for a second time in the ball game in the next inning when senior pitcher Danielle Lawrie scored on a error by Buchanan.

In the seventh, Arizona padded its lead off of a single from Arredondo that got through the right side of the Washington defense to make the score 4-2.

Despite a lead-off triple from sophomore Taylor Smith and sacrifice fly from junior Jenn Salling in the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies could only pull within one and were eliminated from the tournament.

Freshman Kenzie Fowler improved her record to 35-7 on the year by allowing just one earned run on seven hits with eight strikeouts for the Wildcats.

Despite receiving the loss, Lawrie gave a memorable performance in what turned out to be her career finale for Washington by striking out 12 batters and allowing just one earned run off of six hits.

With the win, Arizona moves on to the 8:30 p.m. game on Saturday to take on Hawaii. The winner of Saturday's game will advance to Sunday's semi-finals to take on Tennessee.
