Arkansas-Monticello’s Jackson & Georgian Court’s Sansevera Named NFCA Division II National Player & Pitcher of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Pitcher/infielder Kayla Jackson of Arkansas-Monticello and Diana Sansevera of Georgian Court have been named as the NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played April 11-17, 2011.
Jackson was perfect at the plate last week going 7-for-7 ,as the Cotton Blossoms swept Henderson State in a four-game set. For the week, she tallied three runs, four RBIs, two doubles, a home run and seven walks. She ended the week with a perfect 1.000 batting average, a perfect 1.000 on-base percentage and an astounding 1.714 slugging percentage.
The native of Hallsville, Texas was perfect at the plate during each game last week, including going 4-for-4 in the opener and 0-for-0 with three walks in the series finale. Jackson also picked up two wins and a save in the circle for her team last week, allowing just six hits and three earned runs.
On the season, Jackson currently leads the team with a .477 batting average to go along with team highs in doubles (12), triples (6), RBIs (47), walks (25), slugging percentage (.875) and on-base percentage (.565). After the four wins over the Reddies last week, Arkansas-Monticello is now 33-10 on the year and 13-9 in the Gulf South Conference. The Cotton Blossoms will look to move from up from third place in the West Division of the GSC this week when they travel to second-place Ouachita Baptist for a pair of doubleheaders.
Sansevera went 3-0 over 20 innings of work last week as the Lions picked up wins against Nyack, Felician and Dominican (NY). For the week, she allowed just two unearned runs off of 11 hits with 22 strikeouts and four walks. She finished the week with a 0.00 ERA, while limiting opponents to a .159 batting average.
During the win over Nyack, the Manalapan, N.J., native recorded 11 strikeouts, marking the 25th 10-plus-strikeout game of her career. The game also marked the 18th career solo shutout for Sansevera.
On the year, Sansavera is 6-4 with a 2.41 ERA and 67 strikeouts. After winning all six of its games last week, Georgian Court is now 18-18 overall and 10-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The second-place Lions will look to close the gap on league-leaders Concordia (NY) when they travel to Chestnut Hill and Post this week.
Other Top Performances Breanna Volkmann of Missouri Southern State turned in a .636 clip last week while driving in three runs and stealing five bases… Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Audra Rhudy led the Savage Storm to a three-game sweep over Cameron last week by allowing just one earned run off of five hits with 13 strikeouts … Traci Fransen of Augustana (SD) went 11-for-19 last week and scored 11 runs to help lead the 12th-ranked Vikings to a 6-0 week… Wayne State’s (NE) Katie Goetzinger recorded her 1,000th strikeout and her 100th career win last week while going 4-1 with 45 strikeouts…
