A pair of home runs accounted for five fifth-inning runs as Australia rallied to defeat Canada 6-4 and claim the 2006 Canada Cup women’s division. 

Australia entered the inning trailing 2-1, and Canada brought Kaila Holz to the circle in relief of Danielle Lawrie. The batter Holz faced, Stacey Porter, put Australia on top with a one-out, two run blast that scored Simmone Morrow. 

Following a pair of singles, Holz recorded the second out as she got Natalie Ward to fly out to right. She was unable to work out of the jam as she allowed her second home run of the inning, a three-run shot from Marissa Carpadios that put Australia on top 6-2. 

Porter and Carpadios both collected their only hits of the game on home runs. Morrow paced the Australians with a 2-for-4 offensive showing that included a run scored. 

Canada tried to rally in the seventh as Sheena Lawrick, who led the team with a 2-for-4 plate performance, led off the final frame with a homer. After getting two outs, Jennifer Salling singled off Australia reliever Kelly Hardie to score Alison Bradley and put the tying runs in scoring position. Hardie, however, got Katie Hnatyk to ground out and give Australia the championship. 

Hardie picked up the win in relief as she allowed the two seventh-inning runs on five hits. She struck out five over the final four frames. Holz took the loss as she was credited with four of the five runs in the fifth on four hits. Lawrie gave up a pair of runs on three hits in the opening four and a third innings.
