North Alabama shortstop Emily Beckwith has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for the week of March 14-20, it was announced by the association on Wednesday.
Beckwith helped lead the Lions to a 5-0 start in Gulf South Conference play, including a doubleheader sweep of No. 7 Alabama-Huntsville, the first time that UNA has ever swept the Chargers.
For the week, Beckwith went 7-for-12 (.583) with three home runs and nine RBIs. She slugged at a 1.333 clip and had a .615 on base percentage.
In the first game against UAH, a 4-2 win, Beckwith went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, tying the school record with 20 team homers on the season. In the second game, Beckwith's 2-for-2 performance included the record-breaking 21st long ball of the season, helping the Lions to a 9-0 win.
She also helped UNA to a sweep of West Alabama. In a 10-1 victory over the Tigers, Beckwith went 2-for-2 with a home run, four RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. In the series finale, she went 2-for-3 with an RBI that helped break open a 9-5 victory.
