UCLA second baseman Caitlin Benyi has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the week of May 3-9.
This marks the second consecutive week that a Bruin has claimed the honor. Pitcher Keira Goerl took National Player of the Week honors last week.
Benyi led fifth-ranked UCLA at the plate in four games last week. She went 9-for-15 (.600) with three doubles and three home runs against teams ranked among the nation’s top 10.
Benyi went 2-for-4 against Washington and 2-for-3 against California in losing efforts. She hit a solo home run against the Bears and delivered a double in the 2-1 loss.
She tied a UCLA single-game record with two home runs against Stanford. Six of her nine hits on the week were for extra bases, as she slugged at a 1.400 clip.
Benyi had multiple hits in all four of UCLA’s games last week. On the season, the sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., leads the team with a .380 batting average, 18 home runs and 32 RBIs.
