ST. JOSEPH, Mo - No. 6 Bloomsburg needed two additional innings, but used a sacrifice bunt to hold off Molloy, 2-1, in the first of four elimination games on Saturday the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships at Heritage Park in St. Joseph. 

Bloomsburg (50-7) was first on the board in the contest when Molloy pitcher Megan Buttersworth walked junior Shen Debaro with the bases loaded to score junior Danielle Lazorka and put the Huskies on top, 1-0. 

Staring down elimination, Molloy rose to the occasion in the sixth and scored freshman Jeana Frey off of a single from sophomore Carla Campagna to even the score at one. 

After seven innings the score remained tied, forcing the game to the eighth inning. In the eighth, neither team was able to score and the game was sent to the ultimately decisive ninth inning. 

In the ninth, Bloomsburg senior Casey Massimini laid down a sacrifice bunt that allowed sophomore Mandy Leach to score the go-ahead run. 

In the bottom of the inning, Molloy (43-21) placed the tying run on base when Josette Cavallaro drew a walk with two outs. However, the Lions were unable to convert and were eliminated from the tournament by a score of 2-1. 

Junior Shavaun Fisher got the win for Bloomsburg by allowing no earned runs off of five hits with eight strikeouts to improve to 35-6 on the season. 

Meanwhile, Butterworth received the loss for Molloy, allowing two runs off of five hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Butterworth ends her season with a record of 17-6. 

Bloomsburg will return to action later today at 5 p.m. CDT in another elimination game with No. 19 Angelo State. The winner of the 5 p.m. game will advance to Sunday's semi-final against No. 2 Valdosta Sate.
