Miami-Dade secured their spot in the Gold Bracket by winning their pool with three runs in the top of the seventh inning against Blinn in the final pool play game of the tournament.
Indian River was the hottest-hitting team at the Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Friday, but it was Miami-Dade that had the hot bats on Saturday. In addition to their dramatic comeback in pool play, the Lady Sharks busted out with nine runs including home runs from Jessica Hernandez and Jessica Vera to defeat Southeastern (Iowa) 9-1 (5 inn) in the first round of Gold Bracket play.
Gulf Coast also had some impressive offense in the opening round of the Gold Bracket on Saturday evening, beating Indian Hills 10-5 in a game that saw three Gulf Coast home runs and two by Indian Hills. For the Commodores, home runs by Alana Hadley, Ginny Walsh and Jill Mathis led the way.
Gold Bracket play will continue on Sunday morning with 10 am consolation games between Wallace-Dothan and Indian Hills as well as Southeastern against Mississippi Gulf Coast. Winners bracket games featuring Indian River vs. Gulf Coast and Miami-Dade vs. Wallace-Hanceville are scheduled to begin at noon.
In the Silver Bracket, Chipola will face Chattanooga State and Blinn will face Young Harris on the winners side on Sunday. Bronze Bracket winners features Louisburg vs. Aiken and Wenatchee Valley against Chattanooga Valley.
