COLUMBUS, Ga. – Bracket play in the 2014 NFCA Junior College Leadoff Classic commenced on Saturday, March 1, at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga., with teams competing for event titles in Gold, Silver and Bronze brackets.
The semifinals are now set in all three divisions. In the Gold bracket No.-4-seed Blinn is set to battle defending NJCAA Division I national champ and eighth-seeded Wallace State-Hanceville (11 a.m. ET/Stadium), while No. 3-seed San Jacinto will face off against 2013 NJCAA Division II national titlist and eighth-seeded LSU-Eunice (11 a.m. ET/Field 1).
The Silver bracket semifinal match-ups include: No. 1-seed Central Alabama vs. fifth-seeded Seminole State (11 a.m. ET/Field 2) and No. 2 Tallahassee vs. sixth-seeded Spartanburg (11 a.m. ET/Field 3).
At 11 a.m. ET in the Bronze bracket semis on Fields 4 & 5, fourth-seeded Labette will play No. 8 CCBC-Catonsville, while second-seeded Heartland will battle No. 3 Southern Union.
Sunday’s playoff round action gets underway bright & early at 9 a.m. ET as consolation rounds commence on six different fields.
This year’s classic is divided into pool and bracket play, with each team guaranteed a minimum of five games. Each squad played the other three schools in their pool. Now that pool play is completed, the teams have been divided into three brackets (Gold, Silver & Bronze) of eight teams each.
