LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The NFCA is proud to unveil the Bryce Gerlach Memorial Foundation Stronger Together Award, presented in honor of Gerlach and his family to support teams, encourage healing, and provide program-specific support during trying times.
“I am excited to partner with NFCA which has given me a platform to make the Bryce Gerlach Memorial Foundation Stronger Together Award possible,” said Bella Gerlach, a graduate student on the Marshall University softball team. “Throughout my own journey, I have discovered how the power of community within the team can make all the difference. It is an honor to be able to bring awareness to the softball community and to let those who are struggling know that they are not alone.”

The monetary award, given by the Bryce Gerlach Memorial Foundation, provides resources to softball programs who have experienced sudden adversity or tragedy. Nominated by member coaches and selected by the NFCA Awards Committee, recipients will receive $1,000 to assist those who experience sudden adversity or tragedy and need special support and services to provide strength, unity, and healing.
“Having known the Gerlach family for many years, the thoughtfulness of this award comes as no surprise,” said NFCA CEO Carol Bruggeman. “They are an amazing family and an inspiration to all. The 'Stronger Together' award will positively impact many softball programs as they navigate the challenges of dealing with sudden adversity or tragedy. Bryce Gerlach's legacy will live on through this award and serve as a light for those in need. On behalf of the NFCA, we thank the Gerlach family for their kindness and generosity.”
The Bryce Gerlach Memorial Foundation was created in his name to honor not only his achievements, but the way he lived with heart, faith, purpose, and love for everyone around him. On October 12, 2024, Bryce was tragically shot and killed during Harvest Homecoming—an unimaginable loss to his family, friends, and community. Yet even in the face of this tragedy, his spirit endures.
