Arizona State pitcher Katie Burkhart moved into the NCAA record books last week as she struck out 23 batters over 11 innings in a loss to Washington. The mark, a school record, ties her for fifth all-time in the NCAA.
Another Hurler Sets A Mark
Tennessee hurler Monica Abbott reached another milestone in her career. The junior hurler pitched four innings of relief and became the all-time winningest pitcher in SEC history as the Lady Vols defeated Austin Peay 5-2.
The win was Abbott’s 121st career victory, pushing her past former LSU standout Britni Sneed.
Central Cabarrus Goes 70 in a Row
The Central Cabarrus softball team moved into the No. 1 position in the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 Softball Poll, and they don’t look to give it up anytime soon.
Monte Sherrill’s squad has been very difficult to beat, winning 70 straight games dating back to last season.
No. 1 Teams Beware
The top-ranked team in the country has had a difficult time this season against Texas A&M. The Aggies knocked off previous No. 1 Texas last week, giving them a second victory over a No. 1 team this season.
The Aggies knocked off Arizona when it was ranked No. 1 in the nation on Mar. 16 at the Judi Garman Classic.
Tide Rolling; Gators Biting Hard
Two of the hottest teams in the SEC could arguably be Alabama and Florida.
Since being swept by UA to open the conference slate, Florida as reeled off 12 wins in its last 15 SEC games heading into a weekend home showdown with Eastern Division leader Georgia. Alabama used that conference-opening sweep to spark a run that has the Tide off to a 15-0 mark in SEC play. It will look to continue that unbeaten mark as SEC West second-place team LSU comes to Tuscaloosa.
Rivalry Weekend in Pac-10
The Pac-10 slate this weekend will feature traditional rivalry games. Arizona will travel to Arizona State, while Oregon ventures to Oregon State in the Civil War battle. Stanford and California will also meet this weekend, while UCLA takes its No. 1 ranking to Washington.
Lane Lifts Pride
Hofstra junior outfielder Ashley Lane carried the pride to a 4-0 this week as she set a school record with nine consecutive hits.
The streak began with an RBI double against Iona. She followed with a 3-for-3 performance in the second game of the twin bill, and continued with a perfect 3-for-3 outing against George Mason. She capped the mark with hits in her first two at-bats of the second game of the doubleheader.
