The U.S. saw one of its national teams eliminated from the 2001 Canada Cup as USA Red defeated USA Blue 4-3 Saturday at Surrey, British Columbia. Earlier in the day, USA Red defeated the California A's 5-0, while USA Blue fell to Australia 3-0.

Against the California A's, Catherine Osterman tossed a two-hitter while Jessica Mendoza and Tairia Mims sparked the offense with three hits apiece to lead USA Red. Mims hit a two-run homerin the fifth inning.

Mims also homered against USA Blue as her solo shot, along with three USA Blue errors, sparked a three-run second inning. Kim DePaul's two-run homer in the top of the fourth pulled USA Blue within a run, but Mendoza's lead off home run in the bottom of the fifth extended USA Red's lead to 4-2. USA Blue threatened in the top of the seventh as Jaime Clark's bases-loaded RBI-single pulled USA Blue back within a run, but Osterman got Courtney Dale to ground out to second to end the game.

USA Blue was coming off its first loss in the playoff round, falling to Australia. Natalie Ward singled home a run in the first inning and doubled home a run in the fifth for Australia. USA Blue's Lauren Bauer singled in both games Saturday to extend her hitting streak to 11 games.

USA Red takes on the Phoenix Storm/Japan White winner today at 1 p.m. (EDT). USA Blue, which is eliminated from the Canada Cup, will travel to Marcay, Venezuela later this month to compete in the PanAm Qualifier.
