Sandy Newsham tossed a four-hitter and a second-inning error led to the only run of the game as Canada defeated WPSL Gold 1-0 in the WPSL Tour of Fastpitch Champions Saturday at Madison, Wisconsin. Newsham struck out six and withstood a bases-loaded threat in the third inning. WPSL Gold pitchers Danielle Henderson and Michele Smith combined on a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Two members of WPSL Gold -- Jackie Lance and Erin White -- played for Canada in the 2000 Olympics. WPSL Gold and Canada face off again Sunday at 1 p.m. (CDT) at Madison.
