St. Thomas's Carrie Embree has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week ending March 25, the association announced Wednesday.
The senior first baseman/pitcher ran her hitting streak to 13 games and led the No. 1-ranked Tommies to an 8-0 week at the prestigious Sun West tournament in Orange, Calif. The week included victories over No. 4-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire and No. 11 Chapman, with Embree scoring the eventual winning run in the win over Eau Claire after singling with two outs in the ninth.
From the rubber, the Waukee, Iowa, native won three decisions, with no earned runs and nine strikeouts in 11 innings of work. Defensively, she had no errors in 49 chances at pitcher and first base.
Embree is now batting .544 on the season with 31 hits in 18 games. She has 182 hits in 144 career games with the Tommies.
