Cortland State senior Katie Finch has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week ending April 4, the association has announced. Finch went 4-0 on the week to help lead the 15-5 Red Dragons to a No. 11 ranking in the most recent NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll.
The Amsterdam, N.Y., native did not allow an earned run in four appearances, three as a starter. She allowed only eight hits, two walks and one unearned run and struck out 30 batters in 21 innings. In a 1-0 win at New Paltz, she fanned 13 batters in a one-hit shutout and, in the process, became the all-time leader in both wins and strikeouts in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) history.
Finch currently has career totals of 76 victories and 844 strikeouts. She earned her last win of the week in relief, holding New Paltz to one unearned run over three innings as Cortland rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win 7-5.
Finch is 9-2 this season with a 1.12 ERA and 87 K's in 62.1 innings pitched.
