DePaul pitcher Sarah Martz has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the week of April 12-18.

Martz, a senior from Lanark, Ill., was outstanding both in the circle and at the plate last week. Martz went 4-0 for the Blue Demons and helped her cause by hitting at a .600 clip for the week.

She threw her second career perfect game in a 10-0 victory over Valparaiso, and followed it up by tossing a three-hit shutout against Northern Illinois. She recorded a season high 12 strikeouts as DePaul defeated Saint Louis 1-0 in Conference USA action.

Martz hit safely in all seven of DePaul's games last week. Against Valpo, she went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run. She also recorded three RBIs in game one against Northern Illinois, and notched a pair of three-hit games against Northern Illinois and Saint Louis.

"This is a great honor for Sarah, for DePaul and her team," said Blue Demons' head coach Eugene Lenti. "This validates her status as one of the best players in the country and one of the best that has put on the DePaul uniform."

Martz leads the team with 59 hits and a .440 batting average. She was named both the hitter and pitcher of the week in Conference USA.
