Kelly Murray, Erin Furr (6), A.J. Reeley (10) (Illinois Wesleyan) and
Lacey Lister (Salisbury)
WP - Lacey Lister (27-1)
LP - Erin Furr (4-1)Illinois Wesleyan got on the board fairly early in the game as the team
scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a bunt from Brynn Hasse from
which she collided with the Salisbury first baseman, and a pop up from Jamie
Palmer behind the pitcher. Colleeen Schuster doubled to centerfield to score
the team's first two runs. Things got going again in the sixth as Salisbury
took a 3-2 lead on a deep left field double from Kim Rementer and a stand up
double from Lisa Gentilella that put batters at second and third. Kate Garland
doubled and left Gentilella in a run down between third and home. Garland made
it to third, Rementer scored, but Gentilella was out at home. Mullinix hit an
RBI single that tied the game at two. Rosie Aley doubled deep to center field
and Mullinix was able to score from first giving the Sea Gulls the lead. In
what looked like a Salisbury win, Illinois Wesleyan tied it up in the bottom
of the seventh with a one out, solo homer from Nicole Reed producing the
second extra-inning game of the day. The Sea Gulls finally broke the tie in
the top of the 10th on a base hit by Gentilella, a sacrifice bunt attempt by
Garland that was misplayed, and a stand up triple from Rosie Aley that scored
two. The Titans went down in three in the bottom of the tenth to end the
game. Salisbury is the only undefeated team in this tournament. Salisbury
will play the winner of Game 13 Tuesday; time TBD.ILLINOIS WESLEYAN COACH BETH HASHEIDER: "Salisbury is a great team. Pitching
did a great job. The game went back and forth, but we battled."NICOLE REED ON HER SOLO HOMER THAT TIED THE GAME: "I knew I had to do
something, but I didn't know I would do that."SALISBURY HEAD COACH MARGIE KNIGHT: I think they saw what Salisbury is made
of. We had our backs against the wall, and they had a big clutch home run.
When we had the opportunity to make plays, we did. We've been here a long
time today, and I'm proud of them to draw out what's left."PITCHER LACEY LISTER ON ADVANCING TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: "I'm really
excited. I think it will be a good game no matter who plays. We'll have to
take our A plus game out there."LISA GENTILELLA ON SEVERAL GOOD DEFENSIVE PLAYS: "I was just trying to be
routine, just trying to do the fundamentals. The outfield really stepped up
and we were overall solid defensively. It's the dream of a lifetime to be in
the championship game as a senior."
