A fire was lit under the Emory bats as they scored four runs in the top of
the first inning in the team's second game of the day. Leadoff batter Lauren
Dix walked and then took second base on an Emily Sunshine sacrifice bunt.
Melissa Roberts walked, and Dix scored from second on a base hit from Tamara
Boggs, who was able to take second on her base hit. Boggs and Roberts scored
on an Allison Bouknight double to deep left field. Mandy Chastang ripped a
base hit up the middle that scored one to put Emory up 4-0. Emory retired
Cortland in four batters, allowing only a Julie Gentner double. Emory turned
it up in the second as Tracey Summa hit a leadoff single. Cortland made a
pitching change, but Sherri Rauenzahn immediately doubled to centerfield.
Lauren Dix walked to load the bases. Sunshine singled, but the runner was out
at home on a fielder's choice. Still with the bases loaded, Boggs singled to
score two more leaving the score at 6-0. Emory would pad its lead by one in
the fifth when Bouknight scored from first on an Elizabeth Hampson double.
Emory would score another run in the top of the seventh on a Melissa Roberts
triple to deep right field; she scored after Allison Bouknight grounded out.
Emory plays Central in Game 12 scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today.

CORTLAND HEAD COACH JULIE LENHART: "After the game I talked to the team
about how we've talked all year about how we've focused on defense winning
games. We were like a flat tire. I thought maybe we'd have an advantage
(since Emory had already played once today). We were hoping to be here a
while, so this is a little disappointing. Emory came out playing."

CORTLAND SENIOR JULIE GENTNER: "The loss hurts right now. But a few days from
now we'll realize how good (the season was)."

EMORY HEAD COACH PENNY SIQUEIROS ON BOUNCING BACK FROM A TOUGH loss: "They
bounced back well. They had perspective on the loss. I'm rather proud of
them. Losses are tough, but you have to keep chugging."

PITCHER CHRISTINE O'BRIEN ON COMING IN TO RELIEVE AND PITCHING: The entire
second game: "I'm pleased with my performance. It was a tough battle both
games. We had our bats in the second game. We came on strong early."

THIRD BASEMAN LAUREN DIX: "I really pride myself on defense. I think (some of
the good plays she had) were a momentum builder. Coming out strong is huge."
