Linfield will have to win today and then beat Wash U. again tomorrow to claim its first national title. The Wildcats earned the right to face Wash U. after eliminating Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a 22-10 slugfest in today's first game.
Samantha Van Noy picked up the win for Linfield after relieving Kendra Strahm in the bottom of the second. Van Noy would give up five earned runs in four innings, but the Wildcats provided plenty of support at the plate. They broke the Division III national championship for runs scored by four with their 22 runs, belting out 22 hits and aided by six Eau Claire errors.
Several Wildcats put up impressive offensive numbers, including Stephanie Rice's 4-for-5 performance and Meredith Brunette's 5-for-5 performance with four RBIs.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire takes home the third place trophy after finishing 38-14.
