East Central University sophomore third baseman Kasey Barber and Midwestern State junior pitcher Katie Petersen have been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Sunday, February 15.

Kasey Barber hit .600 last week, including three home runs, two doubles, six runs scored and 11 RBI as East Central got off to a 3-1 start on the 2009 season. The Elgin, Okla., native was a combined 9-for-15 over four games with two walks. She homered twice on Friday, once in each game, as ECU swept Washburn in the Broncho Invitational. On Saturday, she homered in the Lady Tigers 15-7 victory over Northwest Missouri State. Barber posted an on-base percentage of .647 and a 1.333 slugging percentage over four games. She was also error-free defensively at third base with two putouts and five assists on the weekend.

Katie Petersen went 2-0 and delivered her 21st career shutout while helping Midwestern State to a 4-0 showing at the Texas Woman’s Invitational last week. The Plano, Texas, native allowed an unearned run on seven hits for a 0.00 ERA in 12 innings of work while striking out 14 and walking one. She passed former MSU All-American Brittany Willson as the school’s career shutout leader when she allowed five hits while striking out nine in a 8-0 run-rule win over No. 19 Central Missouri on Friday. Petersen followed that effort by allowing an unearned run on two hits in a 7-1 win over No. 3 St. Edward’s. She struck out five and walked one against the Hilltoppers.
