LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Eastern Mennonite’s Aislinn Lucas and Abbie Bergerson of George Fox been selected as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

 

Lucas, a junior outfielder from Grottoes, Va., hit .722 (13-for-18) this past week, with seven runs, a double, two homers, two walks and six runs batted in. The Fort Defiance High graduate registered four multi-hit games in six contests to extend her hit streak to 12 games. She went 4-for-4 with four runs, two homers and three RBI in a 14-12 victory over Guilford.

Bergerson, meanwhile, went 5-0 for the week with a shutout and an 1.21 ERA. The Gresham, Ore., native earned both wins in a sweep of Linfield and collected victories over Concordia, Schreiner and Williamette during the week. The Sam Barlow High product allowed a total of 29 hits, eight runs (five earned) and five walks with 16 strikeouts in 29 innings of work.

Texas-Tyler junior right-hander Kelsey Batten went 3-0 for the week with a shutout, save, 20 strikeouts and 0.75 ERA. … Mary Hardin-Baylor junior outfielder Kourtney Bevers hit .778 (7-for-9) with three runs, two doubles, a triple and four RBI in a three-game road sweep of Concordia (Texas). … Neumann sophomore right-hander Haley Broomell tossed a five-inning no-hitter (one walk, eight strikeouts) against Notre Dame (Md.). …Kalamazoo senior right-hander Taylor Clements had a three-hitter (four strikeouts) as the Hornets completed a sweep of Albion and fanned six and didn’t allow a run in an extra-inning loss to Wellesley (Mass.) in her 14.2 innings. … SUNY Canton junior catcher Shannon Dowling was 9-for-14 (.643) with two doubles, two triples, a homer and 13 RBI, plus 30 putouts and two assists in a flawless week in the field. … Penn State-Abington junior right-hander Michalea Drogalis tossed a five-inning perfect game again Gallaudet and a five-inning three-hitter in the second game against the Bison. … Centenary (La.) freshman shortstop Anna Dunn hit .556 over six games with a team-best 10 hits, plus two doubles, two homers and six RBI. … Albright freshman right-hander Riley Gerenda went 2-0 for the week with a 0.00 ERA, 14 hits and seven strikeouts over 14 innings as she extended her scoreless innings streak to 31. … Virginia Wesleyan freshman first baseman Cassety Howerin was 13-for-18 (.722) with 10 runs, three doubles, a triple and seven RBI to extend her hitting streak to 14 games. … Bethany junior outfielder Kayla Kelly was 5-for-6 (.833) in a twinbill sweep of Chatham with five runs, a double, two triples, a homer and five RBI for a slugging percentage of 2.167. … Bethel junior catcher Caroline Kivisto batted .750 (6-for-8) with a double, homer and five RBI as her team beat then-No. 12 St. Thomas for the first time in 38 games (16 seasons), going 3-for-4 with three RBI. … Manchester freshman second baseman Laurren Ladwig compiled a .600 batting average and 1.700 slugging percentage, collecting three homers (one a grand slam), four runs, two doubles and nine RBI while playing flawlessly in the field, handling all eight changes and cutting down a runner trying to score. … FDU-Florham sophomore utility player Paige Lillie hit .571 (4-for-7) with three runs, three homers and four RBI. … Penn State-Abington sophomore shortstop Breanna Lineman was 13-for-26 (.500) with 12 runs, three doubles, a triple, homer, 10 RBI and five multi-hit games. … Wisconsin-Eau Claire junior right-hander Zana Lorbetske was 3-2 for the week with a shutout, 13 walks and 37 strikeouts over 29 innings.
