LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On the eve of the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., which will feature 14 of the NFCA Top 25 teams, Montclair State retains the No. 1 ranking in the NFCA Top 25 Poll for the second week in a row.
Both Montclair State and No. 2-ranked Luther have yet to begin play this season but hold steady at the top two spots this week.
UT-Tyler (8-0) and Emory (17-0) continued their winning ways to move up to the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the poll, while Tufts (0-0) rounded out the top five. For the second week in a row, Emory made the largest leap upward in the poll.
Eastern Connecticut, Christopher Newport (7-1), Illinois Wesleyan, Linfield (2-2) and Central were voted to poll spots six through 10 respectively.
No. 11 Trine opened play this past week, jumping out to a 2-0 start to move up three spots in the poll. Plattsburgh State, Redlands (11-3), Moravian (2-0) and 2012 NCAA Division III champion Pacific Lutheran (5-3) came in at No. 12 through No. 15, respectively.
Roanoke (6-2) split at 2-2 this past week to drop to No. 16 in the poll, while Ohio Northern came in at No. 17. Carthage (4-0) and Salisbury (6-0) tied in voting points to both claim No. 18 in the poll, and Rowan rounded out the top 20 with a 3-1 record at No. 20.
The final five spots in the Top 25 poll were claimed by St. Thomas (2-0), Ithaca, Cortland State and Louisiana College (6-1) with East Texas Baptist University (8-0) and Washington University St. Louis (8-0) dead-locking for the 25th and final spot. This marks the second week in a row there were two ties.
