OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Georgia Bulldogs punched their ticket to the 2010 NCAA Division Women's College World Series semi-finals on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Florida at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City,
The Bulldogs (50-12) struck first in the contest with a two-run home run from junior Alisa Goler that scored junior Taylor Scholpy, giving them the early advantage. Georgia has now hit a home run in each of its three games at this year's WCWS.
Florida was able to cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning when freshman Brittany Schutte went yard for the third time in the tournament.
In the fifth, the Gators tied the game at two all when pinch runner Lauren Heil scored on a wild pitch from Georgia pitcher Erin Arevalo.
However in the bottom of the frame, junior Megan scored the eventual game-winning run for the Bulldogs when she was driven home on a single to right center field from junior Brianna Hesson.
Florida had its chances in the waning innings of the game, but left two on in the sixth and were struck out in order in the seventh by Arevalo to end the year at 52-13.
Arevalo picked up the win for Georgia by allowing no runs on just two hits while striking out six over 2.2 innings of work to move to 20-6 on the season.
Meanwhile, junior Stephanie Brombacher will finish the year at 35-8 on the year with the loss after allowing three runs off of eight hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
The win moves the Bulldogs on to the first of two semi-finals on Sunday where they will take on UCLA at 12 p.m. CDT.
