Despite receiving 20 first place votes compared to just eight by the second-ranked Gators (19-0), Georgia only finished this week’s voting five points ahead of its SEC rival. The rest of the top five was also unchanged as Alabama (20-1), Arizona (19-2) and Washington (16-0) all held onto to third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Making their first appearances of 2011 in the poll this week were No. 23 Baylor and No. 25 Syracuse. The ranking is the first for the Bears (19-2) since Mar. 22 of last year when they were ranked 25th, while Syracuse’s ranking marks the first time in program history that the Orange (16-3) have been featured in the weekly poll.
Leaving the rankings this week were No. 23 Fresno State and No. 25 Houston, both of which still received votes in the current edition of the poll.
