UCLA pitcher Keira Goerl has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the week of April 26-May 2.
Goerl led the defending national champion Bruins to a 3-0 record last week with wins over Oregon and Oregon State. It was her 118th and 119th career victories.
Against Oregon, she tossed a two-hit shutout to avenge an earlier loss to the Ducks. She followed that performance with a complete game, five-hit victory at Oregon State.
Goerl struck out the final batter to record her 1,000th career strikeout, becoming the 25th player in NCAA Division I history and first Bruin to accomplish the feat.
"This is pretty awesome because there are so many other great players out there," Goerl said. "I felt really good this weekend. Everything was there and a lot of my pitches were working."
Goerl's 119th career win moves her into a tie for seventh place on the all-time NCAA win list. On the season, Goerl is 20-5 with a 1.18 ERA.
