Alabama junior 3B Kelley Montalvo (Miami, Fla.) has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for the week ending March 9, it was announced on Tuesday. 

Montalvo put together a stellar week to lead the Tide to three wins, including two critical victories over then-No. 4 Tennessee as the Crimson Tide opened SEC play. For the week, Montalvo hit .778 (7-for-9) with nine runs scored, seven hits, six walks, two doubles and a 1.333 slugging percentage. 

In the series opener against the Lady Vols, Montalvo went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead the Tide to its first run-rule win over Tennessee since 2003. UA followed suit in the next game with a 13-2 victory. In that game, Montalvo reached base three times with a hit, a walk and a hit by pitch and came around to score all three times. 

In the series finale against Tennessee, Montalvo went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored. For the season, Montalvo is hitting .441 with six doubles, three home runs and 22 RBI. Alabama is ranked second in today’s USA Today/NFCA Top-25 poll.
