HOUSTON – Lock Haven manufactured three runs and Kristen Erb tossed a one-hit shutout as the Lady Eagles defeated Ferris State, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at Memorial Park.
Lock Haven (49-7) advances to play Humboldt State at 5:30 tonight. Ferris State, the Great Lakes Region Champion, concludes its season with a 35-18 record
Lock Haven struck first, posting a run in the top of the first inning. Left fielder Julia Popovich led off with a single, but was erased on a fielders choice by third baseman Sarah Norris. Norris advanced to second on an illegal pitch and went to third on a Kristen Erb groundout. Catcher Amanda Roosa then connected on a bloop single to shallow left field, scoring Norris and giving the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead after the top of the first.
The Lady Eagles plated a second run in the top of the fifth inning as Amanda Gutemaker drew a one-out walk and went to third base on a stolen base/throwing error and scored when Popovich reached on an additional Ferris State error for the 2-0 lead.
Erb led off the top of the sixth inning with a ground-rule double to left field. Erb went to third on a single from Erica Eisenbise and scored on an RBI double to left by Devin Glezen putting Lock Haven up 3-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning.
For the game, the Lady Eagles tallied six hits by six different players in the game.
Ferris State’s Sarah Mueller took the loss in the circle, falling to 16-7 on the season. Lock Haven’s Kristen Erb tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking two in the game. She improves to 43-7 on the season.
