STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior first baseman Gabrielle Bridges of Louisiana-Lafayette has been named as the first NFCA Division I National Player of the Week of the 2011 season, the Association announced on Tuesday. 

Bridges went 7-for-10 with an astounding seven home runs over four games during the first week of play. She ended the week with a .700 batting average, a .850 on-base percentage and an unreal 2.800 slugging percentage. 

The Lafitte, La. Native also scored 11 runs the week, while drawing 10 walks, driving in 17 runs and going 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts. 

On Saturday against Prairie View A&M, Bridges became the fist player in program history to hit three home runs in one game, a game in which she also went yard twice in the same inning. 

The 17th-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns are off to a 5-0 start to their 2011 campaign and will resume play this weekend in the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational at Lamson Park in Lafayette.

Florida’s Stephanie Brombacher went 3-0 on the week with 19 strikeouts and a perfect game… Nikki Williams of Washington went 9-for-11 on the week as the Huskies got off to a 5-0 start… Long Beach State’s Erin Jones-Wesley pitched back-to-back complete game shutouts to begin her collegiate career … Jessica Shults of Oklahoma hit four home runs, four doubles and drove in 15 runs over a 5-1 week including a win over then No. 2 Arizona… Arizona State’s Dallas Escobedo kick-started her collegiate campaign by going 4-0 with 28 strikeouts including wins over then No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 23 Oklahoma St.
