The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced today the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams, honoring student-athletes from nine NFCA regions.
The teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each region. The Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 26, at the opening ceremonies of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Top-ranked Arizona, which enters this week’s regional tournament as the nation’s No. 1 overall seed, placed four players on the first team All-Pacific region. The Wildcats were led by sophomore pitcher Alicia Hollowell, who leads the Pac-10 conference with a 0.65 ERA.
National RBI leader Wendy Allen was also tabbed first team by the Pacific region coaches, as was outfielders Autumn Champion and Caitlin Lowe.
No. 2 California, the top seed in the Lincoln, Neb., regional also placed four players on All-region squads. The Bears had two first team honorees in third baseman Vicky Galindo and outfielder Kaleo Eldredge.
No. 3 LSU and No. 4 Florida State each placed a national-best six players on All-Region squads. The Tigers, the top seed in the Waco, Texas, regional, had three South region first teamers in shortstop Lauren Delahoussaye, outfielder LaDonia Hughes and designated player Lauren Castle.
The Seminoles matched Arizona with four first team selections. Named to the Southeast region’s top squad were pitcher Casey Hunter, catcher Elisa Vasquez, second baseman Veronica Wootson and utility Jessica van der Linden.
Fifth-ranked UCLA had four players named All-region, led by first team Pacific region selections Caitlin Benyi and Lisa Dodd. Washington catcher Kristen Rivera, the reigning Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year, was tabbed first team for the Huskies, the top seed in the Athens, Ga., regional.
Stanford had five players named to the All-Pacific region squad. The host and top seed in the Stanford, Calif., regional had a pair of first team honorees in pitcher Dana Sorensen and shortstop Lauren Lappin.
