Michigan pitcher/first baseman Marissa Young has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the week of April 7-13.

Young, a senior from Santa Ana, Calif., led the 13th-ranked Wolverines to a 4-0 record last week with doubleheader sweeps of Wisconsin and Minnesota.

She appeared in the circle in all four games, tossing two complete games and picking up a save in another. In 15 2/3 innings pitched, she enjoyed a 10:1 strkeout-walk ratio and compiled a 0.43 ERA. Opponents hit just .075 against her.

Against Wisconsin on Friday, Young allowed a single to leadoff the sixth inning in a one-hitter that was her fifth shutout of the season. Young came on in relief in the second game against the Badgers, setting down five hitters in order to preserve a 2-1 Michigan win.

At the plate, Young paced Michigan with a .444 batting average (4-for-9), 1.556 slugging percentage, and .545 on-base mark. Young was responsible for two runs in the Wolverines 3-0 win over Wisconsin, hitting a solo home run and driving in a run on a double.

The next day, Young hit what turned out to be the game-winning home run with a solo shot in the third inning to give UM a 2-1 lead. Young hit her third long ball in game two of a doubleheader with Minnesota when she connected for a first inning grand slam, her fourth of her career.

Young is the first Big Ten player to be named NFCA Player of the Week since April 25, 2001, when Iowa's Alicia Gerlach received the honor.
