Nebraska pitcher Peaches James is the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for the week of February 18-24.
James, a sophomore right-hander from Papillion, Neb., was named Most Outstanding Player of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., after helping lead Nebraska to its first-ever Leadoff Classic title. James pitched 24.2 scoreless innings, including one-hit shutouts against No. 5 LSU and No. 3 Stanford. In the championship game against No. 14 Alabama, she retired all 11 batters she faced in relief, the last five by strikeout. She also helped herself at the plate, hitting a two-run homer in the Huskers’ victory over No. 23 Texas A&M. Nebraska’s Leadoff Classic championship helped vault the Huskers five places to No. 4 in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25.
