Barry pitcher Geralyn Elam is the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week for the week of April 1-7.
Elam, a junior from Marlow, Okla., recorded 18 strikeouts in a one-hit shutout over No. 16 Saint Leo. During one stretch in that game, she struck out 15 consecutive batters. Elam, who finished with 37 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched, broke her own school single-game strikeout record. For the week, she posted a 3-0 record with a two-hitter and a pair of one-hitters. She allowed only one unearned run for a 0.00 earned run average. Barry moved up to No. 5 in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Division II Top 25, the Buccaneers' highest ranking since being ranked No. 1 in the 1999 preseason poll.
