Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division I All-Region Teams
Pima Community College and Gulf Coast Community College each had five players, including four on the first team, named to their respective regions on the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division I All-Region teams announced by the association Thursday.
Gulf Coast had its battery of pitcher Sara Dooley and catcher Blythe Golden named to the first team all-South region team along with shortstop Amanda Bailey and outfielder Yusmary Perez. Debby Connor joined the quartet as an all-region honoree after being named second team utility player.
Pima placed freshman Amanda Duran on the first-team West region battery squad. She was joined on the first team by second baseman Lauren Sabia in the infield and sophomore Synthia Duran in the outfield. Kelly Nielson was tabbed to the first team at the designated player/utility spot. Jessica McNamara earned all-region honors as well, being placed on the second team in the outfield.
Vernon also had five players named to the all-West region squads, with three earning first-team accolades. Jamie Ledford was named to the first team battery after a stellar season in the circle. Catcher Lindsey Voigt and infielder Jonna Andrews joined Ledford on the first team, and Laura Thompson earned second team honors in the outfield along with Leslie Beaty, who claimed second-team utility honors.
Central Arizona also had three selected to the first team and four tabbed on both squads. Pitcher Tabitha Eadus earned first-team accolades along with infielder Jessica DeFreitas and outfielder Audrey Meyer. Tanya Groff was named to the second team battery.
Santa Fe followed Gulf Coast in first team all-South region selections with three. Rachael Foster was named to the battery as a pitcher, while Shannon Monahan and Jessica Paez were named to the infield and outfield, respectively. Santa Fe also had Staci Fernandez named to the second team after a stellar season at second base.
Three teams in the Midwest Region had a pair of players named to the region’s first team. Temple put pitcher Lauren Eckerman and infielder Kim McDonald on the first team, while Iowa Western had Kora Behrens named first-team battery and Jennifer Strohman first squad outfield.
Northern Oklahoma had an infielder, Kendall Hobens, and an outfielder, Melody Murphy, named to the region’s first team, joining second-team selection Kasey Hobens. Temple added Le-Net Franklin to the second team infield, while Iowa Western had outfielder Chanel Reaves named to the second squad.
