LSU senior pitcher Emily Turner has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week for the week ending Apr. 29, the association announced Wednesday.
Turner picked up both of her wins on the week against previous No. 1 Tennessee, leading the Tigers into a tie for first place in the SEC.
The Chula Vista, Calif. Native allowed three runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and six walks as she rallied LSU from an opening-game loss in the three-game set with UT.
She helped her squad even the series with a complete-game effort in which she limited the Lady Vols to a run on five hits with four strikeouts. That run came in the opening inning of the game, and she held a potent UT offense scoreless for 10 straight innings until a fifth-inning score in her second appearance of the weekend.
In Sunday’s rubber game, she gave up two runs on four hits as she struck out three over six and one-third innings. The series-clinching win also earned fourth-year standout her 80th career victory.
Turner has now earned five victories over nationally ranked teams this season, with three of those wins coming against teams ranked first or second.
