St. Mary’s (Texas) senior pitcher Malissa Magee has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending April 6, it was announced on Wednesday.
Magee led the Rattlers to a series win over St. Edward’s University, going 3-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA in 23.0 innings of work.
The Katie, Texas, native allowed just one uneared run on 10 hits and six walks while striking out 21. All three of the games she started were shutouts, and in the series opener against St. Ed’s, Magee held the Hilltoppers to just six hits while striking out nine in a 6-0 win.
On Saturday in Austin, Magee twirled back-to-back one-hit shutouts. In the opening game, she struck out eight and walked one, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. In the second half of the doubleheader, she struck out two and walked two.
For the season, Magee is now 25-4 with a 1.37 ERA, 21 complete games and 12 shutouts in 178.1 innings of work. She has struck out 222 batters while allowing just 33 walks and 106 hits, holding opposing batters to a .168 average. Magee has won her last five starts and has tossed five one-hitters on the season.
St. Mary’s is tied at No. 23 in this week’s NFCA Division II Top 25 poll, which was released earlier today.
