Game 8
No. 4 Metro State 1, No. 7 Wayne State (MI) 0 | Box ScoreBox Score

ST. JOSEPH, MO - The fourth ranked Metro State Roadrunners used an error by No. 7 Wayne State (MI) to score their lone run in Saturday's elimination game and advance, 1-0, at the 2010 NCAA DII Championships at Heritage Park in St. Joseph.

The game-winning play occurred in the top of the fifth inning when junior Lauren Hainlen hit an infield grounder that bounced awkwardly before being fielded by Wayne State third baseman Rebecca Stanley.

Stanley then attempted to throw out Hainlen at first base, but overthrew first baseman Becca Ryan and sent the ball sailing into the Metro dugout, allowing sophomore Molly Clark to score from third base.

Wayne State attempted to tie the game in subsequent innings, but was unable to drive in any runs. The Warriors left one runner stranded in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth.

Metro State ended any hopes of a comeback by Wayne when they turned a double play to end the game.

Despite receiving the loss in the contest, Wayne State pitcher Casey Hanes turned in an impressive performance on the afternoon allowing just three hits while striking out six and walking none. The 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA First-Team All-American will end her senior campaign with a 0.56 ERA and a record of 42-8.

Picking up the win in the circle for the Roadrunners was senior Christie Robinson who advanced to 29-3 on the year by allowing no runs off of five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Metro State will return to action later tonight when they take on No. 1 North Georgia at 7:30 p.m. CDT. The winner will advance to Sunday's semi-final against Hawaii Pacific, while the loser will be eliminated.
