Two-time Olympic gold medalist Michele Smith has announced her retirement from the USA Softball National Team program. Smith's career with the national team began in 1992 and she has won 17 gold medals. She was a member of gold medal-winning teams at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. This summer, she won her third ISF World Championship gold medal.

Smith becomes the second member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Softball Team to retire from the national team program. Dr. Dot Richardson announced her retirement after the 2000 Olympics.
