LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For their impressive efforts on the diamond over February 11-18, junior catcher/third baseman Madison Edwards (Millsap High School, Millsap, Texas) and senior pitcher Paige Curtis (Atlantic Coast H.S., Jacksonville, Fla.) have been chosen as the initial MaxPreps/NFCA South Central and South Region Players of the Week for the 2013 spring campaign, respectively.
Edwards hit a remarkable .857 (12-for-14) during the week for the Millsap Bulldogs with five doubles, a triple, two HR’s and 17 RBIs. Included in her impressive efforts were three-hit performances against Ranger (TX) (3-for-4, two runs, double, triple, three RBIs), Peaster (TX) (3-for-3, three runs, double, HR, four RBIs) and Chico (TX) (3-for-3, two runs, two doubles, six RBIs).
Curtis got it done from both the circle and at the plate in helping improve Atlantic Coast’s record to 4-0 overall. She posted a 3-0 pitching mark with a 1.05 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 20 innings of work while also hitting .444 (4-for-9) at the dish with a double, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. During an 11-0 (6 inn.) triumph over Nease (FL) on February 12, Curtis required just 88 pitches while striking out 12 to complete a no-hitter.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week’s award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week will be announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions. During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
