Mississippi College catcher Sarah Smaltz has been named the NFCA Division III National Player of the Week for games played April 4-10, the Association has announced. The junior helped propel the No. 22 Lady Choctaws into the NFCA Division III Top 25 for the first time this season, leading them to a 6-0 week.
Smaltz batted 11-for-19 with four home runs, a double and nine RBIs to fuel a 6-0 week that included a doubleheader sweep of then-No. 3 Louisiana College. Smaltz also scored eight runs and had a sacrifice fly. She had at least one hit in every game.
The Houston, Texas, native was also named American Southwest Conference East Division Hitter of the Week.
