LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With a dominant 10-0 start to the season, Montclair State retained their No. 1 overall ranking in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll after being unanimously selected as the top pick by all eight voting committee members.
Emory (32-1), UT-Tyler (17-1), Illinois Wesleyan (8-1) and Trine (11-1) retained their positions at No. 2 through No. 5 in the poll, respectively, to round out the top five.
The rankings began to shake up after Eastern Connecticut and Luther (1-1) held steady in sixth and seventh and Linfield (13-4) improved a single position to eighth. Redlands (15-5) jumped a pair of spots to No. 9, Salisbury (16-2) climbed seven slots to 10th and East Texas Baptist (14-2) increased their position two spots to No. 11. Piedmont (15-3) followed with their own increase to reach No. 12 this week while Tufts (3-1) tumbled five spots to No. 13. Carthage (4-0) and Plattsburgh State (1-1, down five spots) rounded out the top 15, respectively.
St. Thomas (6-2) remained in 16th this week while Claremont (15-6) climbed five spots to No. 17. Simpson (17-3), Coe (13-1) and Moravian (8-2) filled spots 18 through 20.
The bottom five saw some new entries into the Top 25 poll as newcomers No. 21 Chapman (17-3), No. 22 Haverford (9-3) and No. 23 Lynchburg (13-4) entered the listing for the first time this season. Christopher Newport (13-8) and Roanoke (13-4) rounded out the final two positions at Nos. 24 and 25 respectively.
The NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll is voted on by eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.
