STARKVILLE, Miss. – Sophomore pitcher Alex Hill of Montclair State has been named the Louisville Slugger Division III National Player of the Week for games played March 12-18.

Hill appeared in six games for the Red Hawks as Montclair went a perfect 9-0 at the Rebel Spring Games, their first undefeated season-opening trip since a 10-0 record at the Gene Cusic Classic in 2003.

The Parsippany, N.J., native went 5-0 and did not allow an earned run (two total) in 36 innings of work. She surrendered 17 hits, struck out 45 and walked just one, picked up a save and posted two complete-game shutouts.

Hill opened her 2012 campaign with a two-hit, eight-inning, 10-strikeout performance as Montclair defeated McDaniel, 4-1. She then earned a save in the second game that day with a scoreless seventh inning as MSU blanked Washington (MD), 2-0. Hill struck out eight in six innings in a 5-1 win over Utica and then fanned 12 in a complete-game three-hit shutout of Roger Williams (a 2-0 Red Hawk victory). She fanned four in a complete-game 4-0 win versus Illinois Wesleyan and then tossed a three-hit shutout with nine K's in a 1-0 win over Millikin to complete her week.

Hill, the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and a First-Team All-NJAC selection in 2011, was also named NJAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday. She currently leads the league in ERA and is second in strikeouts and third in victories.
