Montclair State shortstop Jennifer Jimenez has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week ending April 1, the association announced Wednesday. The sophomore led the No. 23-ranked Red Hawks to a 6-0 week, tacking on to a 13-game win streak that leaves them at 17-2 overall.
The Linden, N.J., native batted .588 with 12 runs scored, three doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs. She began the week going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of John Jay as MSU posted a 12-0 win.
After going 1-for-3 with a double in the opening game versus Scranton, she was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, three runs scored and two home runs as Montclair completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory.
Jimenez wrapped up the week by going 5-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBIs, two doubles and a a home run as Montclair opened its NJAC schedule with a sweep of Richard Stockton (6-1 and 8-6). Jimenez, who was 10-of-17 at the plate, also drew four bases on balls.
The three home runs gave Jimenez 23 in just 65 career games at MSU; she is currently seven shy of the all-time record.
