Muskingum College Head Softball Coach Donna Newberry set the all-time NCAA Division III career wins record Wednesday, Apr. 27, with an 8-3 win over Otterbein College in game two of a doubleheader.
Newberry, in her 31st season as head coach of the Muskies, collected her 722nd career victory, surpassing the previous mark held by June Walker, who coached the College of New Jersey from 1974-95.
Newberry's Lady Muskies have been to the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament every year since its inception in 1985 and to the championship game 18 times, including 10 straight appearances from 1986-1995. In those 18 appearances, Muskingum won the OAC title 14 times.
She has led Muskingum to 14 NCAA regional appearances, including seven straight from 1998-2004, and five NCAA Division III World Series appearances, including a national title in 2001.
