Last week, 20 teams from around the nation traveled to Decatur, Ala., to compete for the 2005 NAIA national title. After two days of pool play, just eight teams remain to advance to the final double-elimination round of competition.

The tournament, which lasts through May 25, features the eight winners from last week’s pool play, including No. 1 Thomas (Ga.), No. 2 Houston Baptist (Texas) and No. 3 Mobile (Ala.)

No. 1 seed Thomas (40-6) allowed just three runs during pool play in route to a perfect 4-0 post-season record. The Night Hawks defeated the University of Virginia College at Wise, Columbia College (Mo.), Oklahoma City University and Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) to earn a national tournament bid from Pool A.

Two previously unseeded teams also earned berths into the double-elimination final tournament. Columbia (Mo.) finished pool play with a 3-1 record, falling only to Thomas 4-0 on the first day of competition. North Georgia College and State University, who also finished with a 3-1 record, earned the second bid from Pool C.

Also competing for the national title are No. 2 seed Houston Baptist University (Texas), No. 3 California Baptist University, No. 4 University of Mobile (Ala.), No. 5 Simon Fraser (B.C) and No. 7 seed the University of Science & Arts (Okla.).
