View the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School All-Region Teams
Central Cabarrus led all schools with five first team all-South region selections as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School All-Region teams Monday afternoon.
Central Cabarrus, the No. 2 team in the final USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 Poll, joined fellow South region squad St. Amant (La.) with the most first team honorees. St. Amant had four players named to the first team.
Central Cabarrus had catcher Ally Blake named to the first team along with first baseman Allison Presnell. Outfielders Chasity and Destiny Covington earned first-team honors along with utility player Amanda Barrs.
St. Amant placed a player at each of the battery positions, with Starla Guffey earning the nod at catcher and Lindsay Kelleher in the circle. Infielders Courtney Maxwell and Lindsey Hope joined their teammates on the first team.
2006 national champion Cactus (Ariz.) placed two players on the West region squad as Katie Holverson was named to the team along with battery mate Stacie Chambers. Another Arizona squad, Sabino, also placed a pair of players on the first team. Molly Johnson was named to the first team infield, while Karissa Buchanon earned one of the three outfield positions.
Keller (Texas) led all teams in the South Central region as a trio of players from the nation’s No. 4 team earned first team accolades. Standout pitcher Kristen Shortridge led the three selections as catcher Amber Tramp and outfielder Kylie King joined her on the first team. Olathe East (Kan.), the No. 21 team in the nation, and No. 22 Brazoswood (Texas) each had a pair of players named to the first team.
Olathe East put first baseman Ashley Guile on the South Central region team along with pitcher Alex Hupp, while Brazoswood had outfielder Lisa Paul named to the squad in addition to at-large selection Brittany Cuevas.
Regina, the Michigan standout that finished the season ranked 17th nationally, joined four others with a pair of players named first team all-North region. Regina placed pitcher Nicole Nemitz on the squad along with Tara LaMilza at second base. Downer’s Grove South (Ill.), Keystone (Ohio), Barrington (Ill.) and previously ranked Martinsville (Ind.) placed a pair of players each on the first team.
Bay Shore out of New York led all first team selections in the East region with three. The school’s battery of pitcher Erika Sullivan and catcher Kristina DeMeo earned first team accolades along with infielder Meghan Walter. Fellow New York prepsters Susquehanna Valley, Cicero-North Syracuse and Williamsville South each placed two players on the first team.
