Humboldt State is the only school with two first-team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Americans while Alabama-Huntsville and Barry led all schools with four total selections apiece as the 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-America Teams were named on Tuesday.

Humboldt State placed two players on the All-America first team with first baseman Natalle Galletly and at-large pitcher Lizzy Prescott recognized. Galletly hit .405 this season with 15 doubles a triple, 11 home runs and 56 RBI. Prescott, an at-large selection to the All-America first team, pitched 312 regular season innings for the Jacks, finishing with a 1.19 ERA and 333 strikeouts.
Abilene Christian’s Jessica Shiery earned Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year honors. Shiery finished with a .440 batting average, scoring 48 runs with 20 doubles, 12 home runs and 44 RBI. Her .760 slugging percentage went with a .983 fielding percentage and she threw out 15 potential base stealers on the season.
Barry advanced to this week’s NCAA Championship winning last weekend’s South Regional, and placed a total of four players on the 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-America Team.
Their first-team selection, pitcher Amber Jack, pitched 195.2 innings during the regular season, finishing with a 0.64 ERA and 156 strikeouts. She had a 26-2 record on the year with a pair of saves and two no-hitters including an eight-strikeout perfect game against Indiana (Pa.) on March 15.
Second-team selections include second baseman Ashley Likens, outfielder Christina DeTagle and designated player Megan Young. Likens hit .388 during regular season play, going 57-for-147 with 33 runs scored, 15 doubles, eight home runs, 50 RBI and five stolen bases. Defensively, she had a .979 fielding percentage at second base. DeTagle hit .457 with 33 runs scored, 15 stolen bases, four doubles and three triples and was perfect defensively on 31 chances. At DP, Young hit .352 during the regular season, scoring 16 runs with 17 doubles and four home runs with 29 RBI.
Only one other school placed four players on this year’s All-America team, and that was Alabama-Huntsville, also from the South Region. The Chargers did not have a first-team selection, but had first baseman Brittney Cargillon the second team and three players, catcher Krystal Johnson, third baseman Amy Harris and at-large pitcher Sage Woodham on the third team.
Joining Barry and Humboldt State at this week’s NCAA Softball Championship will be four additional schools with All-America selections.
Lock Haven placed three student-athletes on the All-America teams, led by three-time first-team All-America pitcher Kristen Erb. The junior pitched 266.1 regular season innings, striking out 323 batters while walking just 14. She had a 34-6 record this season with a 0.26 ERA for the Eagles. She also hit .349 at the plate with eight doubles and three home runs for 21 runs scored and 28 RBI.
Erb is joined by two teammates on the All-America team, second-team catcher Amanda Roosa and third-team at-large third baseman Sarah Norris. Roosa hit .372 with 31 runs scored, nine doubles, 12 home runs and 54 RBI to go with a .997 fielding percentage on 368 chances during the regular season. Norris hit .374 with 11 doubles, a triple and 15 home runs with 36 RBI. Defensively, she had a .952 fielding percentage with 104 chances at third base.
Emporia State had a pair of All-America selections with two second teamers, pitcher Samantha Sheeley and third baseman Miranda Campbell. Sheeley pitched 168.2 regular season innings, striking out 229 batters with a 20-6 record, one save and a 1.37 ERA. Campbell hit .409 in the regular season with 45 runs scored, 11 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs and 41 RBI with a .948 fielding percentage at third base.
Two additional teams heading to Houston have All-America selections this season. Francis Marion’s first-team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America utility/pitcher Michaela Wolf held a regular season ERA of 1.79 with a 21-8 record and 180.0 innings pitched. She struck out 152 batters on the season. At the plate, Wolf hit .343 with six doubles, two home runs and 25 RBI with 15 runs scored on the season. FMU also placed first baseman Monica Wofford on the All-America second team. Wofford hit .383 with 40 runs scored, 51 hits, 11 doubles, seven home runs with 34 RBI during the regular season.
LIU-C.W. Post also had one All-American this season with pitcher Samantha Yodowitz earning second-team honors. Yodowitz pitched 183.1 innings during the regular season with a 1.47 ERA, 160 strikeouts and a 23-6 record. Offensively, she hit .341 going 56-164 with 39 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples and seven home runs.
