CLEARWATER, Fla. - The 2014 NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic officially got underway on Friday, Feb. 21, at the Eddie C. Moore Park in Clearwater, Fla.
Unfortunately, the softball action later succumbed to poor weather conditions as a storm front began moving through the local area at approximately 3:55 p.m.
With conditions deteriorating, the decision was made by tournament officials to halt play and resume the (in progress) 2:30 p.m. ET round of games at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday morning. Friday's 5 p.m. ET round of contests have now been moved to 9 a.m. Sunday.
Before the rains came, four games had been completed as No. 20 Louisiana Lafayette topped Illinois State (10-4), Hofstra defeated Connecticut (7-3), DePaul outlasted Massachusetts (4-2) and James Madison beat Rutgers (5-2).
Saturday's resumed contests (10 a.m. ET) will include USF vs. Illinois State (USF leads 1-0, 4th), DePaul vs. Connecticut (DePaul leads 7-0, 5th), College of Charleston vs. Massachusetts (C of C leads 7-0, 3rd) and James Madison vs. No. 20 Louisiana Lafayette (JMU leads 2-0, 2nd).
